In 1991, Debbie was in a massive car accident that destroyed the ACL in her leg. The loss of this major ligament left her without the ability to walk. In the nine months between the accident and her transplant, Debbie endured intense pain and serious depression. She required assistance to do basic daily tasks she had previously taken for granted. Even standing to load the dishwasher was too difficult.
Upon receiving her ACL tissue transplant, Debbie entered into intense rehab and now has approximately 85% full functionality in her leg. She managed to lose over half of her body weight and continues to maintain a healthy life style. Although her injury was not life-threatening at first glance, Debbie says the negative impact may certainly have been. “The transplant was life-saving and a blessing.”
Debbie hopes to meet the family of her donor. “I want to thank them personally. They were very generous.”
